Autocad many times turns a splined poly line into a spline,
and then it is hard/impossible to go back to the orginal polyline.
Is there a way to prevent that behavior?

I hope this is still possible with your AutoCAD version.Save the spline as a version12 dxf file then DXFIN it back into the
drawing.
