Yes it was working just fine before XP SP2.
We use TCP/IP here, no netbieu.
I may have added drivers for winXP to make it work. Not sure.
Generally I get confused with shared/networked printers and where the
drivers are, where the print spool is etc.
....................................
Ok, I went to my printers folder (on Windows XP) , opened the printer
properties, (this took about 30 seconds to open)
I clicked change driver and selected the printer from the list (HP
Laserjet1100).
I can now print from Word and from Autocad!
However every step of the way is very slow and sluggish, as are other
things network related...
I guess I'm off to the MS forums.
Thanks

So, are you saying that you could print to the Win98 machine BEFORE you
installed the SP2 on the XP machine?
Just curious because I have my home wireless networking set up so that my
wife's laptop running XP (also updated to SP2) can print to the HP1220c
inkjet printer hooked up to my Win98 machine. Of course, my computer has
to be on, and I'm not running SBS 2000 - just straight printer sharing.
I can also share drives if I wanted to.
But, I seem to remember having to add something into the XP machine to
make it work, yet I can't right now remember what that was. It may have
been the NetBIEU protocol that the XP setup no longer provides as an
option, but I'm not sure the Win98 machine is still set up with that now.
That was almost a year ago and, after a little initial fiddling, it's
worked flawlessly ever since - even after the SP2 update.
