ViewPort Layer Properties between different PaperSpace tabs

Hope this makes sense. I have two paperspaces set up. One for 11x17. Another for 22x34 (different plotter). I had to make numerous changes to the drawing (11x17 tab) inside the viewports, plus resizing, moving them, etc. So it benefits me to just delete everything from the 22x34 tab and copy-paste everything from the revised 11x17 tab. Everything is fine, except the layering scheme in the viewports that I copy over to the 22x34. All layers are set to On. So now I've got to back to the VPort in the 11x17 tab and check which ones are frozen. Then go back to the VPort in the 22x34 tab and re-freeze them there. So I'm wondering how to eliminate having to do this.

    Thanks,
    Eric

Not sure why you delete the larger viewport: you seem to be working on the
exact same modelspace drawing in both, which in fact should be updating in
    both your viewports.

Unless you are not looking at the same modelspace portion of your drawing,
in which case you might find it more beneficial to actually be in modelspace
making all your changes then going back to your layout to resize and move
    only.
Explore that MODEL tab at the bottom of your AutoCAD screen.

    Save layer states?

Why two layouts? Why not just plot the big one smaller with a different pagesetup? Works for us.

With your explanation, the post seems even more interesting: if it's the
same thing, why 'update' at all. Hope we find out soon :)

As OC said, named page setups and a single tab are usually the right way to
    handle the situation you describe.

But if there is still a need to have the same thing on multiple tabs, then
it would make sense to make it a block or xref. No use drawing something
    twice.

    Good luck -

Thanks everyone for your help. Dummy me. I didn't even know about creating different Page Setups under the same Layout tab. Thanks for setting me in the right direction.

Still back to my original question. Suppose I want to Copy-Paste a VPort over to an existing Layout tab. There is still a need for this, especially if I need to copy one from another drawing. Not all the Layers are freezing properly in the newly created Vport I've just copied over. So I'm just wondering if there is a variable I have to set or is it a bug? I'm using 2004.

    Thanks,
    Eric
