appending layout name in pdf - not fixed yet?

An unfortunate change in behavior in AutoCAD 2005 is the lost ability to
appent the layout name to the pdf file name.
Are there any work-arounds to get this to work in 2005 ?
The format I want is 354-1(1).pdf, 354-1(2).pdf etc.
    DWF is not an alternative

Customize with LISP or more: core AutoCAD function is as you have
    discovered.

If you are not familiar with customizing, HELP in AutoCAD gets into it real
good, and plenty of resources on the internet to search and learn from as
    well.
You can also repost in the Customization discussion area if you get stuck
    and need help finishing.

Explore -PLOT command (note the dash).
