Tool button image file location? |
|
|
ADT2006
IMO the new CUI (customized user interface) is intimidating, hard to use and
confusing. Of course it might not be so bad if the help files were more
clear on the subject. I am confident I will eventually figure it out but,
that is not the question, only a comment.
Where are the tool bar button images files located (rcda_16_dimrad for
example)? I have searched both the program files and documents &
setting/user/application data/autodesk/adt 2006/enu/support (aint't that a
mouth full) and cannot locate the images. Can anyone please, tell me where
to find them?
Thanks

I think they are internal. The only ones that I ever been able to find in
acad are the express tool icons and my custom icons.

I think they are defined in the acad.mnc file in acad. You can edit them
and "save as" in the button properties dialog. If you don't mind me asking,
why do you need to access the icons in some other way?

The new CUI is radically different from previous releases. The method of
creating custom tool buttons is not clearly explained in the help files.
Additionally, when customizing, there is no "user defined" button available
(at least I have not found one as of yet) so one must modify an existing
image. Make a mistake in the way the edited image is saved and the original
is changed and banished forever. A reinstall will not correct this as I am
sorry to say I have found out. The only way to start again with a "clean
slate" is to uninstall then reinstall the entire program. If the originals
are available they could be copied to a different file then pasted back into
the program - at least that is what I was hoping for.

Doesn't sound very convenient. So now if we need to create an icon from
scratch, we need to use an icon editor utility? I've also noticed in 2005
that several previously available buttons are no more. So the ability to
run it side by side with 2002 came in handy. I could open the button
properties in 2002 and do a "save as" for the icon image. I'd save as a bmp
in a 2005 support folder. Then I had to enter them in the mns. I had to I
had to do that with several express tool buttons also not to mention entire
express tool routines that were removed when they started including them on
the cd.

In every new release tool buttons are deleted. I can't understand what that
is all about. You method of opening previous release and saving the icon is
intriguing. I will have to give it a try.

I tried you method of "save as" previous release toolbar buttons. Works
great and is easier than expected. I am tempted to re-install 2002 and do
same for many of the deleted legacy icons.
