License Manager refuses to release license |
|
|
I'm trying to trouble shoot an issue we have here. The problem is that we have a laptop that borrowed a license last week for 5 days, which they returned early. In LMTOOLS it still shows the license as borrowed (linger: 627120) but the laptop doesn't think it does. I've tried everything from disconnecting the laptop from the network, to uninstalling ACAD entirely. Nothing I have done has made any effect. Currently the laptop has no ACAD(2005 BTW) and the LM still thinks that a license is borrowed.
My question is: how can I force the LMTOOLS manager to stop thinking that the license is in use?
Details include:
LMTOOLS version: 9.22
Windows XP(SP2)
Acad 2005 (no SP)
Windows 2k3 network
I'm very new to administering Acad.
Thanks for your help.

From LMTools go to Start\Stop\Reread tab
Check the Force server shutdown box
Then Stop Server
After it stops Start server
Then you can go to perform status enquiry and the Licenses should not still show up.

P.S. don't stop the service from task Manager.
If you do a server reboot will be required. |

Thanks for the reply John...
I've been talking with Midwest Cad on this as well. They had this same suggestion, which I tried. I actually did the task manager approach and had to physically reboot the server (which caused even more problems with users being disconnected). Even after rebooting the server the license still shows up. (Except the date it was checked out is set to when the LM started backup). Currently the laptop does not have ACAD installed at all.
It seems that some rogue process is borrowing / unborrowing the license whenever it wants to. The enquiry shows the machine name and the username... which is not accurate by either parts...
Thank you very much for your help...

Hi All,
Stopping and restarting the license manager will not clear a borrowed
license. Neither will uninstalling the application that borrowed it.
Killing FLEXlm processes in task manager will likely cause a condition where
you will have to reboot the server.
It looks like the license was borrowed for 7, not 5 days. At this point
your best bet is to wait until the borrow expires and the license will
return to the pool. If this happens again, borrow the license again from
the same workstation that borrowed it to begin with. It is important that
the same user has logged in to the workstation using the same log in account
and that the connection to the network is the same connection used to borrow
the license in the first place. If you change log in accounts or network
interfaces it will appear that the license has been returned but in reality
it is still bound to the legacy adapter or log in account. Also, if log in
accounts or the current network interface changes and you borrow a license,
you will borrow another license and returning early will only return that
seat, not the one borrowed with legacy credentials.
