hi there,
in the office i worked last we were using microstation j and had a
tool called "front.ma". i used i quite a lot to change the display
order of elements. now using v8 i can not use my old front.ma anymore
and am really lost. how do you v8 users send elements to front or
back? or is there a V8 version of the tool. i tried using the "ws addW
and "ws drop" keyin command already, but it doesn't really work for
me.
thanks for your help

hallo nimmersatt, (ich denke ich kann in deutsch antworten)
in V8.1 gibt's im Menü "Bearbeiten" die Funktion "in den Vordergrund
bringen". Die Elemente müssen vorher ausgewählt werden!

chgOrder.bas is a basic macro written by Andrei Columban and is
available from cadgurus. It will let you reorder the display of
elements in your design file. You can bring things to the front or
send them to the back. If you cannot find it, shot me an email and I
can hook you up

Also, you may find Bentley's discussion groups of assistance. Over there you
can meet other users of Bentley products, exchange ideas, and discuss a wide
range of technical subjects. These groups are an excellent technical
resource for all users of Bentley products and services. Hope to see you
there!

Sorry but you key in is wrong.
Select the object first to be placed on top
Then key in
wset add;wset drop
Then enter key the key in must be exactly as above including the spaces or
it wont work.
I found that setting it to a function key saved typing and it works
everytime.
But the elements must be in the active file not reference files.

Interesting point, if you look in V8's help, there are two "Bring to Front"
entries. One is for the Raster Manager and the other is for design
elements.

The second one works with a Selection Set and is accessed via the "Edit"
menu. It will bring the selected element to the front of the view display.
Key-in: ORDER ELEMENT FRONT
