Resellers a pain in the arse |
|
|
Hi
I'm doing some research on various PDM systems for our company and before I
call in all the various vendoes I'd like to get in my head what each costs.
We use 7 seats of Wildfire here and a few seats in Intralink. I'd like to
know what price PDMLink is before I let the ProE resellers know that I'm
thinking of upgrading. They rally are a pain in the bum when they get a
sniff of a possible deal.
I'm also interested in other PDM systems. I hear Smarteam is OK but not so
good at working with proE, and I see there is another US company with a
product called ProductCentre that reads pretty good. I don't want to be
bombarded with sales lit, I can get enough from the web sites, just looking
pricing, PDMLink in particular as I think we'll stick with a PTC software
product.
Thanks

I looked at all 3: PDMLink, Smarteam, and ProductCenter. We havent made a
decision which way to go yet, but leaning toward Smarteam. The estimate to
implement PDMLink or Smarteam for a similar sized group was about $125000
(US), about half for software licenses, a minimum amount for hardware, and
nearly half for implementation (consulting) costs. It probably isn't
something you want to try to implement by yourself unless you have a crack
IT staff. You'll probably spend a little less initially for ProductCenter
(maybe $100k), but the support infrastructure doesn't seem as good as the
other two and annual maintenance is a little higher. Really, any of the
three would probably be adequate for our needs, but Smarteam had a few
extras that would benefit the enterprise. By the way, these three were the
only PDM solutions I found that had a good ProE integration. Feel free to
contact me directly: marks_at_zevex_dot_com.

If you are looking at options for managing Pro/E, take a look at
DesignDataManager, works very well, easy to implement, very low admin
overhead, and very easy to use. www.designdatamanager.com
