We use a program called pro steel to creat accurate working 3d models in autocad. when you draw a line it can snap to any object in the x,y,z feild .... what i wouldn like to know .. is if its possible to lock either the x,y,z feild so that a line can not be drawn in it.. for example.. drawing a line and snapping to objects up the Z feild but not allowing the line to travel up the z field resulting in a 2d trace of the 3d object... if that makes it clear hope someone has the answer

thanx

a 2d polyline will "lock" onto a single plane.
ensure your first point is at the correct z value and subsequent
points will remain at this z value even if snapped from other
3d points, giving you a 2d trace.

Check out point filters. They are very important in 3D drafting.

Point filters allow you to move, copy, etc to a point on only the axis you
specify.
