I am looking for some feedback on the follwing plotters;

Xerox 6204(new), Oce TDS400, Oce TDS450(new) anf the OceTDS600.

What I am looking for is, setup time, ease of setup, plot quality and the software being used to plot to the devices. It would also be helpful to to know what billing software you are using.

To give you a little history: We are about 40 person Arch. firm leasing a KIP 6000 plotter, which has been serviced almost every two weeks during my 6 month employment. I'm thinking we just got a lemon but none the less we are looking to purchase and new plotter.
Leaning towards Oce but considering the new Xerox.

Thanks for any help you can give me!!

Milton

The KIP 3000 is doing great in the field. The new KIP 5000 will be coming out and replacing the KIP 6000.

 TDS 320-450 are dual footprint, the scanner is separate from the printer taking much more floor space

 The operating cost on the TDS 320 and 450 is 2.5 times higher than the KIP 3000. With an average use of 7500 square feet per month, the KIP 3000 will save $5670 over five years or $95 per month in consumable costs.

 TDS 320-450 are old technology with dual component developer systems. The developer fails at a different rate than the toner.

 The TDS 320-450 are not 100% toner efficient and waste toner that must be removed and disposed of.

 The TDS 320-450 media rolls are not field upgradeable.

 The TDS 320 has no copy interrupt

 The TDS 320-450 do not have unlimited software license on their print utility, Print Exec.

 The TDS 320-450 have a very difficult user interface.

 The TDS 320 scanner has no paper sensors to properly match copy media size.

 The Xerox 6204 uses a Fuju Xerox controller which has no auto recognition of file types. This can cause the controller to lock up require operator intervention to clear the queue.

 The 6204 cannot save print jobs for later recall and use.

 The Xerox 6204 is listed as a mono component device; however it is not 100% toner efficient and requires a waste toner bottle to be replaced. The unit will shut down if the waste toner bottle is full

 The 6204 delivers prints out the front of the unit. With a full configuration of scanner and printer, this eliminates the possibility of using sophisticated finishing devices like a folder because it blocks the operator’s access in front.

 The 6204 does not support DWF printing.

 The cost of PDF support for the 6204 is $1400, twice the cost of the KIP 3000 PDF converter.

 The BT Plot Assistant Software (print submission tool) does not have a viewer.

 The Controller re-rips or processes files per copy, i.e. if a user sends a tiff file to print 10 copies, the controller processes the file 10 times. This is very slow and inefficient in a set printing environment.

 The 6204 cannot scan to FTP.

 The operator panel on the 6204 is a small, difficult to navigate backlit screen. The KIP 3000 screen is a large color screen that users prefer.

 You cannot buy the 6204 as a copier only.

 You cannot adjust the speed of the scanner – 3 ips.

 The 6204 is upgradeable to 5 “D”’s, however, you must also upgrade the power to 220.
