I am trying to write a routine that will go through a bunch of drawings
without opening AutoCAD. I have seen this done at AU but have not figured
out how to do it.

What I want to do is open the drawing (without actually opening AutoCAD) and
read some attribute information on blocks.

Any Ideas??

Thanks in advance.

Nate,

Look into DBX which should allow this, I have not tired.
Also, through Automation in VB you could just make the
Application NOT Visiable..I do it for excel should work
in Acad. Bit more overhead than DBX though, I would think.

ObjectDBX will do what you want.
Bear in mind that even though AutoCAD will not open up and display the
drawing you will still need to have AutoCAD installed on any workstation
that your program is run on.
Autodesk does license ObjectDBX so that it can be run even though
AutoCAD isn't installed. You will need to contact them for details.

http://www.cadmin.com/VBA_for_ADT/ObjectDBX.htm

Don't think you have to register dbx environ for versions 2004+
Google ObjectDBX..Bunch of info out there on it..
