Is it just me? or its always been this way?
When Inserting Xref's that contain user arrow head on specific layer.
The layer for the user arrow head have to be frozen for it not to plot?
Usually just off will not plot for other blocks.

So layers that are not off will plot?

I've always used freeze instead of off, never had an issue.

Can you post a sample for others to try?

Well that depends on ALL the layers. Is the block built using layer 0, or someother specific layer? If it's on 0 it should turn off and not plot, but you need to be careful if it was created using a specific layer.

<<I've always used freeze instead of off, never had an issue.>>

Different tools different uses. FREEZE those you never wish to see again, OFF those you'll want back in a minute.

but why just user arrows? not other blocks or dimensions?

Freeze for both, unless you are running a very slow PC, it would never
matter.
OFF you can still pick, Freeze you never will.
OFF you can only 'hide' some things but not everything, Freeze hides
everything from sight.

There is no right or wrong, just understand the limitations ;)

If everything, XREFs included, were not saved down to R2000, does your
problem go away?

Completely off-topic Mr Culp, but what on earth are you doing at work at
this time on a Saturday? I thought I was the only fool who worked ridiculous
hours!

Mac (looking forward to what's left of a very wet weekend in London)

Mr.??? that was my Dad.

As for being here on a Saturday Morning, we've been working 6 days a week, 10-12 hours a day for a couple of years now. So I'm nearly always here.

Raining here, too, and getting cool again. Gonna be in the upper 30's tonight. Last Thursday the high was 87, sheesh that isn't January.

If you use layers as a design aid, learning the proper use of FREEZE and OFF will improve performance. I can toggle ON/OFF layers as I work to get a better view of what I'm working on, with just a couple of keystrokes.

If they were frozen, I'd have to pick through all the layers to thaw what I need to see and keep the frozen layers frozen. That would be less than productive.

Two very different tools with two very different uses.

I know the feeling, I've been doing that since February 1997. I must admit I
like it because the phone hardly rings, the half a dozen guys on the shop
floor get a heck of a lot of work done. Morale is good and the owner of the
company makes us feel appreciated.

That said though, I'm done for the week, enjoy the rest of your weekend!

Mac.
