Does anyone know how to get the right scale to appear in the viewport scale field in a label block from meters in model space and mm in paper space? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated :)

Viewports are scaled by scale factors or the ratio of what shown to the real size of the object without fractiions equals feet and inches etc, etc.

Metric is easier: 1 meter = 1000 millimeters = 100 centimeters = 10 decameters and so on. Someone long ago decided Latin prefixes for fractions of a meter would be a good thing.

Hope this helps

Thanks for the reply, but what i really need is a way of converting the field data.
The label block field was written it seems only for US and firms that use mm in model space. I have found out how to format the field by copying and using a text editor then pasting into text, but the format options dont include a CT value for multipling by 1000.

Guess I got lost in the terminology somewhere. Is it a graphic scale that you're calling a "label block"?

If so, the values should be editable attributes but practically everyone fails to add this feature. Instead, they create a graphic scale for every scale used.

Sorry I flubbed out, here. Where's OLD-CADaver when you need him??????

Its my first day back at work, and I cant make any sense of this. Clearly I need a holiday.....

Have I got this right?

1. You've drawn in model at a scale of 1 meter= 1 drawing unit.
2. You've created a viewport in your layout to a suitable scale.
3. You've inserted a block containing a field, which you have linked to your viewport, to display the viewport scale.
4. Now you want to add a multiplier so that the viewport scale is displayed as mm to drawing units not the current meters to drawing units.

Yes that is right, the field displays the scale as 1:0.2 instead of 1:200. I know how to format the field however autodesk have not included a CT option to multiply by 1000. Is there another way to do this without making my title block etc drawn in meters?

Is ther a reason you draw in meters? or can you change to 1mm=1unit? Bear in mind that you CAN insert a scale factor in your dimension style if need the dimensions to display in meters. In the past I've drawn some qutie large buildings in mm (air port terminal, hospitals) this is normal practise here.

Otherwise, look at the grey box at the bottom of the Field dialogue box. It has some code which looks somthing like this;

%<\AcObjProp Object(%<\_ObjId 2130636320>%).CustomScale \f "1:%lu2%ct1%qf2816">%

You can copy/paste it into notepad, edit it, then copy/paste it into a mtext window.

Someone in the customisation group may be able to help you with some syntax to put in a multiplier.....and automate the process. That kind of thing is beyond me.

Thanks heaps for replying wookie,
i found out how to edit the field code in notepad however Autodesk has no 1000 multiplier written into the code options.
I cant change to mm, its not to do with the size of building etc, its because of the coordinate systems that surveyers use. Thus when submitting dwgs civil engineers have to give coordinates of where the building etc is located on earth. So it is standard that all civil and survey firms use metres and everyone else uses mm.
Anyway I think i will retire my search.
Once again thanks to everyone that replied
