How can I reduce my filesize in AutoCAD 2004? I know about the purge command, but I'm a little confused. There were some blocks I exploded (because there was only one of them to begin with....and some of the blocks were part of nested blocks) and then I resaved my drawing and the filesize increased????

Maybe my understanding of blocks is misguided....Could anyone point me in the right direction to help reduce my filesize? (it's 20MB, by the way).

Thanks in Advance

Hi malik641,
if you want to reduce file size of drawing, use xref system,my experience I have a drawing factory layout,it's contained many machines, cables, furnitures, pipes, walls and etc. That drawing have 5.5 mb memory, and then I use xref ,after that ,file reduce to 1.1 mb,about 80%.

Adesu,

Thanks for the advice. I'll be reading up on xref's soon.

And since the first post, I've found ways to reduce my filesize. For example:

-Reduce the amount of fonts being used
-utilizing the FILTER command to find useless layers/blocks
-reduce the amount of layers
-purge, purge, purge

I'm now working on a VBA solution to find any hidden items (I've noticed a bunch of hidden stuff using Ctrl+A.....and I'm not talking about Frozen/Off layers) and to delete them. I know about the WBLOCK command...but I don't like that because I have to recreate my Layer Filters after I do this.
