I recently switched computers and used the Portable License Utility to transfer an ACAD2005 license from the old system to the new one. Since this involved installing AutoCAD on the new system before transferring the license, this means there are now *two* licenses showing up on that machine - a 30-day-trial license, and the real transferred license.

Is there any way to remove the 30-day trial license from the machine and/or the Portable License Utility?

That may sound like fussing over insignificant details, <grin> but it would also give me confidence that the new computer will keep working with the transferred license. As it stands, I am reluctant to wipe the old system until the 30 days are up, just in case I have to re-export the license.

Thanks in advance for any help,

Colin French

If you don't *launch* AutoCAD before transferring the license, you won't get

the trial license (for next time).

No. The trial will be used until it expires, then the full license will be
used (once you import it). You can have multiple copies of the license for
a single product on a single PC. There's a license instance selection
algorithm that picks the best one for you.

If you've successfully imported on the new PC, you can be confident that
everything worked fine. Re-exporting wouldn't work in this case, since you
already have a successful import (the export would work, but the import
would fail). If there is any problem on this new PC, the fix would be to
simply get a new auth code. You fix licenses where they are (not by
reimporting in an attempt to "replace" an old license).

In the PLU, you can right-click on a license to view its properties, if this
gives you any more confidence that your transfer was successful.

Colin,

You are more likely to cause trouble for yourself by deleting licenses than
anything else. You can tell which license AutoCAD is using by selecting
ABOUT in the help pull-down and then selecting the PRODUCT INFORMATION
button. If the license properties show that you have a Permanent,
Commercial license you can be confident that AutoCAD is running off the full
license, not the trial.

Thanks for the quick responses, Cy and Jerry.

Checking the About-->Product Information dialog box does indeed show the license being used by ACAD is a "Permanent, Commercial" one, i.e. the imported license and not the 30-day trial. That has allayed my concerns. Thanks again,
