There may be a better way of doing this, what with all the changes being made to Pro/e in the last few years. This is the "old fashioned" way, taken fromm the archives of Pro/USER Exploder.

Here are the replies to my question on changing the color of the instances
of a family table.

Thank you to all who replied.

The only way I have heard of doing this is to create a surface covering
the
entire part then color it name it that color for easy reference and then
show or blank the colored surface you are interested in seeing in each
instance. I only had reason to do this once and it was really simple they
were just small light bulbs, but it worked like a charm.

In order to create one part that has multiple colors you can use family
tables and surface features to represent the different colors that you
need.
An example of where this application would be used is with LED displays.
You can create a model of an LED. Then you can create surfaces on the
bulb
portion of the model by selecting #Feature #Create #Surface #Copy #Include
#Individual Surfaces, next select the surfaces that make up the bulb of
the
LED. Do this for each color that you need. Be sure to name each surface
the appropriate color so you can keep them straight. Now add a color to
each surface by going under the Model Setup pull down menu and selecting
#Color and Appearances. The Color and Appearances dialog box shows up and
you can add a color to each surface. Next create a family table of the
part
and add each surface feature to the table. Now create instances for each
color turning off all surfaces except the one that has the color that you
want displayed.

Create surfaces, one for each color that envelope the part (shrinkwrap).
Set the color of each surface feature.
Add the features to the table.
