Is it possible to set the following setting in the config.pro?
View> Model Display > Shade > Small Surfaces

Starting when I'm not sure, you could turn off the shading of small surfaces in
config.pro with the option skip_small_surfaces set to yes. The opposite setting
will force it to shade them.
