More memory and PDFs still print slow |

Just went from 4 megs to 68 megs of memory in our HP4v
and PDF files still print very slow.
Using a network system printer, the files fly through the print
cue, then the printer sits there and sits there and sits..... I got
tired of waiting for this print. About 1.3 meg in the cue.
I have tried these settings in the properties of the printer, neither
of which seem to make any difference.
"Spool print documents so program finishes printing faster
(start printing immediately)"
"Print directly to printer"
Any suggestions for a speedier print?

check out my previous post on our HP500 slow to plot and spool. to make a
long story short
the problem was our anti-virus software scaning page files.....

Thanks for the suggestion, but this isn't bogging down
any machines. You can take a nap waiting for the
print to process. Printing the pdfs from Adobe is what
I am doing now, not from any Autodesk prodcut.

Check the port on the switch for trans errors?

PDF printing from Acrobat is slow on AutoCAD intense detail outputs,
especially if more than letter size: is that what you are doing?
4v is not exactly a speed demon either: when did they stop making those,
10years ago?
How does a DWF fair?
What version Acrobat? Reader or full?
Any help from Adobe's discussion area?

Yes, printing (11x17) sheets of cad drawings. I realize
that the 4v isn't exactly the fastest printer, but that is what
I have to deal with (we've had ours since 1997, I think).
Haven't tried DWF files
Reader version of Adobe.
Haven't checked any Adobe discussion areas, my thought
was this was more cad related since it seems to be slow
with the printing of drawings.

It's an Acrobat problem: if you get a chance, try plotting a PDF to a
plotter using an HP Windows driver lol

Try using the Advanced Button at the bottom of the Adobe 6.0 Print dialog
and then check the Print As Image and see if that helps. Rasterizing a PDF
can be a very memory intensive process for large format drawings and it can
easily spool into a 100 MB or larger image file that has to be sent to the
printer.

Try setting another printer and then resetting the one that you want.
That's a wonderful Adobe bug in 6.0 that they introduced. Sometimes it will
allow you to change it and other times not for the same printer/plotter on
the same machine. Go figure.

On those try checking or unchecking the ckeckbox and see if it helps.
Sometimes the printer doesn't support sending it as a complete image which
may be the case of the CutePDF but other times it's a bug in Adobe that
disables it.
