We use a network plotter and custom paper sizes, I have Windows 2000 OS and AutoCAD 2005. No one else has this problem but sometimes when I try to plot using one of the custom paper sizes the hourglass comes on and AutoCAD freezes up. I then shut down using the task manager. But this doesn't happen every time. Sometimes it works fine. I had our IT guy re-install Autocad for me but am still having this problem. Any ideas???

I think you need to better identify the 'sometimes' condition, then you can
probably solve it.
Things to check would be your plot setup for that session: use PAGESETUP
command.

The problem first of all only occurs when I use a custom paper size. I just now opened a drawing and clicked plot, the dialog box showed up and I selected the correct plotter and custom paper size, and the drawing plotted. I saved the drawing (with new the plot settings saved) and closed it. I then re-opened the drawing, clicked plot, and Autocad froze.

The other time it freezes is when I click the plot icon and the dialog box shows up, I select the plotter and custom paper size, then click the preview button. Everything is fine and the preview shows up. Then if I right click and try to exit back to the plot dialog box, Autocad freezes up.

Nobody seems to know why this is happening because everyone else using the same custom paper sizes have no problems.

Since we only use about two different paper sizes what we usually do is to create two different pc3 files. One for each paper size. I've been doing this for almost two years but just recently have noticed this problem

I think I have narrowed the problem down somewhat.

There is a printer in the pulldown menu of the plot dialog box with the name \\MEplotter\OCE 9600

This is the name I click on when I am setting up a new network plotter through the wizard.

If I select this printer there are no hang-ups whatsover, however when I tried to print with it nothing happened.

I went into the properties for this printer and unchecked all but two paper sizes, I also modified the prinable area of those, then Autocad created a pc3 file since I made modifications.

I also created a pc3 file using the wizard.

Whenever I plot using these plotters with the pc3 files, it will work the first time (i.e. before it automatically searches for the plotter). If I save, close, re-open, and then plot (with the previous plot settings saved) this is when the hourglass pops up and Autocad freezes.

The other time it freezes is when I am able to get to the plot dialog box, click on one of the plotters with the pc3 file, click preview, then once in the preview area, click exit from the shortcut menu. At this point Autocad freezes again.

I'm having heck of a time with this, it just seems to not like something about those pc3 files.

I have set everyone else's computers up with similar custom plotters/paper sizes in my area and all of theirs work just fine.

I don't know what to do, please help!

I've been playing with it some more and the problem only occurs when the plotter has a .pmp file attached. I can create the plotter with the .pc3 extension and every thing is fine, but when I try to filter the paper sizes or add custom sizes and a pmp file is attached to the plotter, this is when I have the previous described problem of Autocad freezing.

Any ideas?

P.S. I read through some previous threads of people who had the same problem and tried some of the fixes suggested but, alas, to no avail!
