R13 new Canon S900 printer not printing |

OK, first of all I am helping my husband with this - I know only a little about computers and he only knows how to use AutoCAD so I need a really basic answer. He has AutoCAD 13, we just bought a new printer - a canon S900. His computer is using Windows '98, with a 333 computer. Yes, I know everything we have is cheap and old but it is what we can afford for this Mom and Pop business. AutoCAD won't recognize our printer. I've read a ton of postings in the archives and don't see or understand the answer. I can't even find where you add a printer! I am a nursing instructor and it is a foreign language to me! Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Can you print to this printer in from any other applications in Win98?
If you answered yes, then make it the default printer in Windows and print
to it in R13 (select System Printer).
If you answered no to the top question, you need to ask Canon why not and
get it up and running in Windows98 first.

It prints other things fine and it is the default printer. Onl y autocad doesn't recognize it. Thanks!

What do you mean by 'doesn't recognize it'? It's either there, or not, in
Windows.

| It prints in Windows. For example it will print a Word or Excel document. It is listed and selected as the default printer in Windows. The problem occurs only when printing from R13. It is not listed in AutoCAD as an available printer like our previous printers have been. I remember there was some process to adding the printer to AutoCAD but I do not recall it. I called Canon and they told me it was an AutoCAD problem. |

Your choice in R13 is SYSTEM PRINTER, not canon s900: is that the problem,
you are not looking at the right wording?

You may not be aware, but AutoCAD13 does not work like other Windows
programs when printing: and only Canon is in a position to write an R13
driver for it, so you cannot 'add' it as you note.

| I am probably just trying to do this all wrong. Here is what I am doing and seeing. I go to add plotter. I choose #15 system printer. It asks if I want it dithered. I have tried both ways since I don't know what that means. It ask to update pens, I have tried both ways for this also. Then it asks if I want to make other changes and I say no. It asks me to name this. I name it canon S900. It asks if I want to save changes and I say no. I go in and pick an area and select print. I get the following message. Operating System detected the following error - plotter disabled *can not open plotter. Is this what I was suppose to do? Thanks so much for all your help with this, I really do appreciate it!
