List.

I'm getting setup to do a relatively long plot for a proposal that would
include various views of a 3D model.

Deal is I want to plot out onto a 36" x 10' or something long sheet at a
print shop here in town.

Anybody got any tips for doing this?

I think I've got the driver here for the print shops plotter.

Is there anything else I should be checking out/making sure to do?

Thanks,

Jonathan

what plotter?
what driver?
using a pc3 file?
AutoCAD version (exact version, not just the 'series')?
modelspace or paperspace?

Why do we need to ask these basic questions ;)

Hi Dean.

ACAD 2004 Paperspace Plots.

I'm not sure what the driver will be. I have to check with the print shop.

I'm a donkey when it comes to this stuff, but I'd love to get started with
it relatively soon.

Do I need to have a driver and all prior to getting some paperspace layouts
going for this?

Your help is really appreciated.

Jonathan

I just create a custom sheet size and a new PC3 file. I am using AutoCAD
2005, this could vary depending upon your version of AutoCAD and your
Plotter Drivers.

What plotter is your print-shop using?
What driver are you using to generate the plot file? Or are you just sending
them your DWG file?
Have you started creating a custom sheet size PC3 file?

Hi Dean.

I had not gotten to the point of figuring out which plotter they are using
these days. I also had not figured out whether it would be easiest for me to
generate a plt file.

I'm kind of flying by the seat of my pants with this one - obviously.

Is there a way for me to setup a dwg file and bring it to them perhaps? I'm
wondering if this might be easiest?

Maybe I'll give them a ring and see what they have to say. I'll get back
with you on the questions ASAP.

Hi bellsouth.

Can you dumb that down for me a bit.

Where do I go to setup a custom sheet size and to set up a new pc3 file?

Do I do it in the actual plot sheet that I want to print? ...

I've had a little trouble figuring out how to set up a custom sheet size
without overriding the 12 X 18 sheet size I have setup for my regular
plots...

Consider asking your print-shop for help: you can't be the first to do so,
whether they can do so, they can walk you through the setup.

Post back here with details and anything they tell do that does not make
sense: otherwise, they need to get you started right now IMHO, not here.

I don't know your AutoCAD version, I don't know the plotter your trying to
plot to, I don't know the Drivers your using, I don't know the Windows
version your using. There are so many variables that you have not expounded
upon.

May I suggest a book on AutoCAD to help familiarize you with things like
pc3's, sheet sizes, etc. Without it, your going to be hopelessly lost. Not
trying to be sarcastic, just trying to be helpful. Familiarity with AutoCAD
terms, and basics is necessary for anybody here to be able to help you out
and for you to be able to accomplish tasks such as plotting.

Hey Bellsouth.

Thanks. I try to deal with the ACAD plotter settings once in a blue moon
when I get a new plotter.

One man shop and all - only so much I can actually want to know about ACAD.

I may try and get with the print shop and see perhaps if they can JFDI.

I'll get back on this as soon as I can gather up the variables and shoot
them out to the list.

Cheers and Thanks,

Jonathan

Hi All.

Big thanks for everyone that dropped something helpful on this post.

Just mailed off my 24" x 30' long plot this morning.

For what it is worth, we had to go to the printer with the most recent
driver as the others decided to crash at about 26'...

Cheers,

JDC
