what if the proper way to dim a slotted hole. Do you dim to the mid point of the slot and just call out the slot dim's (13/16" slot by 1 1/4" ) or do you go to each cen. point of the slot.

The *most* "correct" way would be the way that makes it easiest for whoever
is going to produce the slot. If you're working on some sort of machine
part, why don't you call the fabricator and ask them? If it were me, and I
had no access to the fabricator, I'd probably give a couple of locating
dimensions, as you suggested, and a descriptive callout.

It depends on the design intent. Are you using true position with material modifiers for the slot or is the slot controlled by the block tolerances?

A common practice is to dimension the centers with basic dimensions from the datums, then have separate callouts for the length and width separately with material condition applied. If the slot is rotated from a comon axis, you'll need to dimension the angle from the datums. Generally speaking, the length of a slot is not as tightly controlled as the width to allow slide. The slot width and corresponding pin hole generally have tighter tolerances than the length.

What's the design intent?
