Oce and TCP/IP troubles...2nd Posting... |
|
|
Hello:
Please ignore the first post... hit enter by mistake.
Here's the correct posting:
We're having troubles plotting to our Oce TDS 600. We're trying to plot to
the machine using TCP/IP, but we get the following error message from
AutoCAD after executing a plot:
********************************************************
MESSAGE: (null) : You have at least one Windows System Printer configured
for IP_10.2.0.40, so the HDI driver cannot open IP_10.2.0.40 directly.
The output will be spooled through a system Printer, which usually works
fine.
(We have tried to select a System Printer that will not corrupt the output.)
The HDI I/O port configuration will not, however, take effect. To allow
direct
output to IP_10.2.0.40, all System Printers configured to use IP_10.2.0.40
must be reconfigured not to use IP_10.2.0.40. The appearance of this dialog
may be controlled in Tools/Options/Plotting.
********************************************************
The trouble is, no other printers are configured to use this IP address.
Does any one have any suggestions?
Thanks in advance,

First of all, its not an error message. It is a warning message. Did the
plot come out all right? As the message says, you can disable the warning.

Hi Fred.
We've got a TDS600 set up in AutoCAD 2005 using the included HDI driver and
no problems at all. I checked the port connection and in AutoCAD we've
simply assigned it to the share, in our case \\TDS600\OCETDS600 . In Windows
that shows up as a Lan Manager Printer Port.
Have you looked at the DHCP settings on your server to be sure that IP
address isn't being assigned to some computer, etc.? Like if you didn't have
a reservation for it and the plotter happened to be turned off when someone
was logging on, they could end up with that address. You can look at the
current address leases in the scope in the DHCP plugin in Wiindows Server
admin tools..

John:
We were making the mistake of configuring our pc3 files to connect directly
to the Oce controller's IP address, rather than to a Windows Printer
assigned to a share as you prescribed. The plot files were being copied to
the controller, but weren't being sent to the plotter.
We also had to rebuild our pc3 definitions, as they were using an older
version of the Oce HDI (9600 v TDS 600) drivers. Things are operating
properly now.
Thanks,
Fred

Thanks for posting the resolution. Others will probably make the same
mistake and can now follow in your footsteps. The answers to the questions
are what make the newsgroups valuable - not the questions themselves.

Thanks in advance,
Right the correct way to setup up the tds600 machines is to not use the |
share on the controller. The way I suggest is that you install the
Windows driver(subject to controller version) onto a server somewhere
setting up a LPR port direct to the controller. This LPR port is the
one you get from adding Services for Unix in Add & Remove Programs,
Other File & Print Services. If you insist on using the the Win2000/XP
TCP/IP printing you must select LPR Port and Enable Byte Counting..
That is the Windows printing setup. As regards HDI, install the HDI
locally on the pcs and point it to a Generic/Text driver on a server
shared out. This is used as a pass through driver but will stop Autocad
from complaining about the System Printer. |
