??? re: dimensioning solids in MS or PS |
|
|
General question to anyone that regularly dimensions the solid model vs. a Solprof / Soldraw whether in MS or PS.
Are you only viewing the dimensioned model orthographically or isometrically?
Today I dimensioned a solid while UCS and View were at Top, then Front, then Left Side. Then I viewed it in SW Isometric. It comes out looking pretty hokey because if I shaded it, a lot of the extension lines were hidden and trying to realize what was being dimensioned was fuzzy. So I plotted it out as wire. Ugly!
Okay, no problem if I dimension the solid and only view it orthographically, but what about the iso views? What do you do then? Or do you?
I expect OC to comment here.
TIA for your help.

| I've always dimensioned mine from a SE viewpoint - although it could be SW. And I plot from the SE. |

Using what version?
In R2002, you can't plot shaded so we plot hiddenline with DISPSILH=1.
Dimensioning isometrics is tricky, at best. What is dimensioned and where, must be carefully planned to avoid overlaps and confusion. The only elements we regularly dimension in iso (in MS) are Pipe Fabrication Isos. Everything else is dim'ed orthogonal in PS.

Thanx OC,
I'm not paranoid after all. |

| You're welcome. When plotting hidden 3D models, be sure to turn on DISPSILH to remove the curve "tesselation" lines. It unclutters the plot considerably. |
