Moving an Oce 9400 |

We need to move an OCE 9400 across town. The OCE people say we need to pay them $145 per hour so that they can come out and make some adjustment so that the drum is closed. They say that this is important so that it does not get scratched.
Are these guys blowing smoke?
If so can a user make the adjustment?
Any help is appreciated.

How much are you paying per month to lease the 9400?
Will the warranty be void if you move it yourself?
How much will they charge you to bring out a new one?
We moved a 9700 across the street a few years ago, and let Oce do it. |

This is on behalf of someone else that I am working for so I don't know every detail.
I think the machine is paid for...not leased.
It is not covered by a service contract.

It's all about insurance and whether your 'someone' wants to risk an
accident or not.
Explore all the options, have a backup plan for whatever you decide should
things go wrong, make a decision you can live with.

I guess what I meant is that you have to evaluate the risks involved in
moving it yourself.
What are the costs to have Oce move it?
What are the costs of repair if you move it and damage it?
What are the chances that if you move it, that you will damage it?
I'm not saying that you *cannot* move it yourself successfully, but I
don't think the Oce guys are just 'blowing smoke' either. |

The drum is secured in by the developer housing and will not move. The tranfer assembly may move out of place and damage the drum. To "help" with this not to happen, run a 36x42 cutsheet of any plot and power machine off when you see the lead edge exiting the fuser and leave paper in while moving the plotter. Move plotter using 2 dollies under each leg and KEEP MACHINE LEVEL AT ALL TIMES.
If any stairs are involved then Oce will have to de-install the machine before moving because the developer will have to be removed and the printhead locked down.

| We moved ours across town a few weeks ago. Use extreme caution and keep it level. I've had no problems as of yet. (It's also pretty freakin heavy!) |
