I cannot see my text in the text window, because of the background color, is
there something something I can do to change that background color?

Sure, type in, or go to the pulldown, options, then select Display->colors
and select command line background....choose your color.

Mtext window opens transparent by default. (Drives me nuts). You have to
click on the small space under the ruler to turn off the transparency.
