Drawing Scale? |
|
|
I have a question about the scale of a drawing. I got a drawing from another company, it was a .dxf file. Since I didn't draw the part myself there is no way for me to know what scale it was drawn in. In my experience if the part doesn't SEEM to have an mvsetup on it that the part is full scale...right? Here's my problem my company sent these .dxf drawing to an outsource company to get made. The parts came back to us out-of-whack. We later found out that the .dxf drawings were never checked with a hard copy of a drawing. So we lost a lot of money. Is there a way to check the scale of a drawing that was sent to me? Like using a list command or something. Thanks

do you draw at 1:1 scale? Do they know that? How would they know that?
Do you provide dimensions in your files?
A scale bar?
A note in your file perhaps?
Anything?

| The file came to me with no information on it. I didn't draw the part I'm talking about. I got a file over e-mail that was just a part, no dimensions, no notes, not nothing. I got out a hard copy of the drawing and the scale of the part wasn't right. I was able to fix the scale with no problem, the problem was I needed to know what scale it was draw in to begin with so we didn't have to eat 8 bad parts. All I want to know is if there is a way to figure out the scale of someone else drawing in Auto CAD. |

If the part is drawn properly, it will be 1 to 1 in AutoCAD. Drawing scale should only be relevant after plotting. The only way to know what is to know at least one dimension and check it with the distance command.

Sounds like you are afraid to ask the sender, your #1 person to solve your
mystery: are you by chance not supposed to have it or what?
Unless the sender, or you, are new to AutoCAD, most of us draw at 1:1,
AutoCAD does not force you to draw any other way, that's up to the user.
Since you have a plot of the model with presumably dimensions, your method
for 'correcting' would superficially (we only have your word for it) be the
correct approach.
Consider communications with the file creator as your #1 problem fix always.
Always.
So to answer your question, AutoCAD is not going to tell you much about your
model that you or the file creator do not put in it to communicate.

So are you speaking of some CNC-file ?? If so, the coordinates themself must
be in proper
dimensions, yeh? If not, then your supplier is the guilty one and the adress
of your bill.

| Thank you all, you have answered my question. I kinda asked the question wrong but I got the answer I was looking for. I was just wondering if it was possible for me to check it myself. Thank you for your input. I didn't think there was a way to do such a thing because I never ran into that problem. Oh well...Thank you. |

| I don't think I can do that sorry. The drawing isn't my company's and I could get in troble for letting out drawing like that. I got the answer I was looking for anyway. Thank you. |
