Get ready to love me.

WARNING: Editing your registry can screw up Autocad, your computer, your life etc etc etc. FOLLOW THESE STEPS AT YOUR OWN RISK. That said...

Open registry editor.
Browse to:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Autodesk\AutoCAD\R15.0\ACAD-8:409\Profiles\Land Desktop\Dialogs\Open Drawing
Select the ViewMode DWORD value.
Right click and click MODIFY.
CHange the Value Data to your choice. (3 sets it in list mode. 4 sets it to details mode.)
Click ok.
Close regedit.
Launch Autocad.
Be less irritated. =]

Repeat steps in "Save Drawing As", "Select File", "Select Menu File" etc etc as necessary.

And it gets more interesting. This setting works one time and then Autocad (I'm assuming) changes the value back to 1.

Anyone know a workaround or a way to lock the value??

I don't know the answer here.

But this problem is driving me nuts. Costing too much time just to find and open the desired file.

Enough to drive me to some other application...
