Installing 2000 to XP |
|
|
Trying to install AutoCAD 2000 on my new "monster box" running Windows XP
Professional, I found yet another stupid Autodesk trick. The following alert
box appears: "Incompatible operating system! AutoCAD 2000 supports Windows
95, 98, NT 4.0 and NT 5.0." This pops up immediately upon running either
Setup.exe or Msetup.exe, so I know there's an OS test in those programs
somewhere but I can't find it in any notepad-viewable file. How typically
forward-looking of Autodesk to assume that any later releases of Windows
wouldn't be backward-compatible with programs written for previous versions
XP documentation says "any program which runs under NT 4.0 will run with
Windows XP". My problem, dumb as it is, is getting past the installer's OS
test. Anyone posting a solution which obviates the need to manually migrate
the whole Win98SE installed version, then hunt down & change all drive-letter
references, will move to the top of this week's ACADgenius list!
TIA,
==Matt==
