OK:

XP Service Pack 2 is a dog with fleas. It installs without organic Application
Compatibiliy Tools - even for Administrator level. Here's how I spent my
Friday:

Go to Microsoft.com, find XP support files, backtrack through info links to
original (2 years old) Compatibility Fixes, eventually run across "Application
Compatibility Tools 3.0", download this! Establish new AutoCAD 2000 installer
Compatibility Database, Run Application Comptibility Fix to emulate NT 4.0,
Test run, get past stupid OS crashbox, cancel ACAD 2000 install, save new
database, "install" new fix, run ACAD 200 msetup.exe for real.....

This is more frustration than I had building my entire new "monster box" from
scratch! Sheesh. The things these megacorps leave out of their flagship
products make me wanna move to Antarctica & live in a pup tent. <:-O

Myriad nods to those who chipped in on this thread. Unhappily, I'm
extra-positive I'll be a-postin' again (I hope not *soon*) with further
mysteries.

TATF (thanx after the fact),

That's why I didn't install SP2 until now.
New boxes come with it, they run fine, existing ones, I think I'll leave
them until replacement.
Save lots of troubles.

We're doing the same, 4 physical sites about to have all PC's rebuilt
with SP2 onboard, shouldn't be a drama. 5th site just been rebuilt with
only SP1, the powers that be want that site taken to SP2 as well. I
shudder to think how that one will go, even with a few months the gap
we're going to see a lot of software and shit that is going to cause
potential breakages.

Don't know if this will help or I just got lucky but.........I installed
2000 into XP and "then installed" SP1 and SP2 as they came available. Not a
single crash or compatibility problem todate. I even got SP1a thru SP3
installed for Office 2kPro into it. P4-1.8Mhzw/512meg-32meg video laptop.
