Pretty basic question here but hope someone can help...
How do I take a title Block I drew up and make a template
out of it? I created a block out of it, inserted attributes, then
saved it as a template. However, when I go to open it
up in paper space, I do not see anything.

Am I doing something wrong.

Thanks in advance!

Create the template then go tolayout then INSERT it.

<<I created a block out of it, inserted attributes, >>

Wrong order??

<<then saved it as a template.>>

I think you're confusing your titleblock block with a template. Two different beasties.

First create the "border" block, complete with attributes and save it as "titleblock.dwg" or whatever. Then open a new drawing, go to layout tab and INSERT "titleblock.dwg" or whatever. Create any standard layers text styles, dimstyles you want in every new drawing. THEN, save that as a template.

That's if you go the "insert" titleblock route. Some here subscribe to the XREF titleblock concept, I don't. But if you do, replace the Insert command above with XREF. You'll need another block for the attributes that will have to be inserted separately.

Isn't he talking about a .DWT file?

Create a file with all the stuff you normally use in a drawing and save it as a .DWT instead of .DWG.

Then set the start-up preferences to prompt for a template file to use.
Won't see the title block in paper space unless inserted in paper space at 1:1.

Could put it in modelspace at 1:1 then viewport into paperspace but editable attributes should probably be inserted on each layout (at least sheet number and sheet title).

OK, I get that. Thank you. Now, how do I update the
block's or even a standard AutoCad Title Block
template attributes.

If the title block has been inserted > update original block and re-insert or ref-edit the block (NOTE: ref-edit will NOT update the source block, only the occurence of that block in the drawing in which you re-edit it).

If the title block has been xref'd > make changes in original title block drawing (changes will update automatically upon re-opening your drawings as the xref gets re-loaded) or you can use ref-edit from a particular drawing. Here there are no worries as ref-edit of an xref saves the changes directly back to the source file.

Hope that helps.

Since many have posted an idea, let me suggest this.

Create your border, either in paperspace/layout or as a Block.

Create another Block out of the Attributes. This is what I like.

Then when you need, insert the Attributed Block into the titleblock/border.

This way your Template will already have the border in Layout, and your Plotstyle already to go.

Someday I can move up to 2005 and start using Fields.
