Starting drawings read-only |
|
|
Does anyone know of a way to force all drawings to open read-only by
default?
Thanks,

Find the files with Windows Explorer. Highlight same. Right click and
select "Properties" Check box that says "Read Only". Close

I think the keyword here was "all", not changing each file one by one.

Nope. Each time you create a new file you have to do that one too. One at a
time.

That's how I read it too.
The OP didn't say if it was to
work for all machines, one machine, or just one
user at one specific time.
As usual, poorly crafted questions lead to hit-or-miss
answers. A lecture I once attended by an Ivy League
prof had as it's premise that
"data does not exist in the world, but rather is defined
in the assumptions that you use to ask questions."
That tidbit has stuck with me for about twenty years now....

True, the intent was really not clear. I took it as he wanted a setting that
would automatically open all files as read only whether he had marked them
that way or not.

What I was refering to is making an AutoCAD station always open all drawings
read-only, regardless of the read-only status of the drawing or any other
factor.
Thank you,
Cliff Davis

I don't think that is possible, but I could be mistaken. Why do you
want to do this?

Assuming a network, couldn't this be done by restricting network privileges
and keeping the
files on another "protected" machine?

That's what I thought. No, to my knowledge there is no way to do that.
