HELP! Big problem creating boundary region |
|
|
Hello all,
I am having a devil of a time creating a boundary region. I keep getting:
0 loops extracted
0 Regions created
I am having no problem creating a boundary hatch of the same elements,
but when I try to create a boundary region I get nothing. How can that
be? If the drawing elements are good enough to create a boundary hatch,
shouldn't they be good enough to create a boundary region?
What I have discovered so far is that the curved elements in these files
are made of pieces of arcs, ellipses, circles, etc. If I replace the
pieces with one spline I have no problem creating a boundary region.
But as pieces of arcs, etc. it will not create a region. My question
remains the same, why can I create a boundary hatch, but not a boundary
region from the same elements. I have checked and all elements are on
the same plane. I should also mention that I cannot PEDIT > JOIN the
elements. I fear that is an indication of the problem.
I'm panicking because I have hundreds and hundreds of files to process
the same way. Please help!!
BTW, what I'm attempting to accomplish is to extrude the elements to
create a 3D object. But of course, I can't extrude them unless they are
a closed PLINE or REGION. Hence my problem.
R2000/WIN 98
Thanks
Brett

Hi Brett,
I too have ran into this problem. It seems that hatching will accept a bit looser tolerance in it's boundaries (sometimes, not always) where creating a region MUST be closed. Sometimes I have found that lines/arcs are doubled up and that is what screws up the region. I have drawn a line (as a guide) and moved each segment, one at a time via that line (or use a pre-determined length for each). This will show you duplication and give you a single version of the entities. Try regioning again and if it still fails, then with R=0, fillet each segment all the way around. Yes it is a giant PINB, butt...err I mean but what are ya' gonna do? |

Thanks MadCad,
It is very frustrating having to clean up someone elses work. Your idea
about doing a fillet with R=0 was a good suggestion, if only it works on
all the problems.
I have another issue that is perplexing me now. When I try to create
the Boundary Region and then select the internal point, I get a Boundary
Definition Error: Point is outside of boundary. But I am definitely
clicking inside the object. In fact, I can click anywhere in the
drawing and I still get the same error. Any ideas about this one?
Thanks

Your area is not closed, or the lines you see on screen are not all in the
same plane?

Dean,
Thanks for your reply. I have checked and all elements are Z=0. What
I'm puzzled by is when I click anywhere on the drawing - inside or
outside of the elements I'm trying to make a region - I get the same
error: Point is outside boundary. How can that be?
Also, I don't suppose you know of a lisp that can locate lines that
don't quite intersect, and then make them intersect? That would
probably be too much to ask for. I have inherited a big mess that is
going to take forever to repair manually.
Thanks.
