Running Autocad in Linux? |
|
|
I am on a new project where I'll be implementing Archibus/FM site wide. Of
course, we are using Autocad with this. We currently have 2002 but will be
upgrading to 2005 ASAP.
At work, I use Windows XP, which is okay for this system. At home, however,
I use SuSE Linux 9.2. I have tried installing both 2002 and 2004 in my
Linux system but with no luck. I'm using Crossover Office to obtain
Windows compatibility.
Without downgrading to Windows XP, is there any way to get Autocad to work
within Windows?

Sorry my bad - within Windows emulation.
Even better - when are they going to come out with a Linux version? Is
there any word on that? I'd love to dump my emulation programs altogether.

Chances are, there never will be a Linux version. Same can be said about
most mainstream software. There isn't the user base to support it.

You could
Buy another computer with WindowsXpsp2 and network it to your Linux Box with
samba.

In that case use Qcad on Linux and welcome back to Autocad13!

Oooh, that's scary. (not) I had a kernel upgrade the day after that was
posted.
Try this on for size.
In Windows your passwords are stored in a hive of the registry called
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SECURITY\SAM\Domains\Account\Users
They are MD5 encrypted, but that's easy to break with any available MD5
tool. Now, launch regedit and try to navigate to that tree - can't right?
Good. This is how it is supposed to be.
Now, open a command prompt and type in
at hh:mm /interactive regedit
For the hh:mm, substitute the curent time plus one minute in 24-hour
format. So, right now it is 3:16, I'd type in 15:17.
In one minute, regedit will open and voila - you have the sam hive.
I love NTLM security.

I dont see what the big deal is. I have gone from DOS through every single
Windows OS, and though the older versions sucked, XP Pro is great. No
crashes, no headaches, no need to be a programmer as well as an
architect/engineer to run it. |

Probably not. At least not work well. Stef Yoder had some success with
LT2002 (I think), but I haven't seen anything recent. One of the
problems is that AutoCad tends to directly read the keyboard rather than
going through the Windows API. How they get by with doing that and
still have Windows logo compliance is a mystery.
I think BricsCad has a linux beta for Intellicad.
