Recurring problem while working with a drawing (not too heavy only 4megs).
This drawing has a lot of solid hatches in various colors. The problem is
that the cursor 'sticks' or freezes for up to a quarter minute EVERYTIME an
object is selected. This
happens in model space and in viewports. Is there a setvar function or
anything that will solve this????(other than seriously considering
alternatives to Autocad).

Can you structure the drawing so that extraneous elements
can go on individual layers that you can freeze?

Try turning off autosnap. I've noticed that the snaps seem to trigger
what you are describing.
