Can I create an image for stand-alone deployment without having to install NLM? If so, where can I find the correct steps?
Any input is appreciated.

you can use the Network Installation Wizard.
from the cd
go to the network deployment tab
view the quick start to network installation (.chm)
(dont bother looking at the stand-alone installation guide for help on network deployment.)
view the quick start to network installation (.chm)
