I just installed LDD5, removed LDD4 first. I can plot directly to the
plotter just fine, but when I try to plot to a file, the app seems to
hang when bringing up a dialog of where to put the file. Not sure if
this is just a plotting issue because I've also noticed that when I try
to do a regular insert of a block, the app hangs trying to bring up the
dialog box. I've tried removing all the program files, reinstalling,
etc. All the service packs have been applied. Any ideas?

I would guess that the plotting program is searching through directories
that it has been programmed for. Not finding a "rogue" directory.

This is exactly what happenned here. IT had mapped a new drive
on startup and the drive was not available. Everytime Autocad
opened a file dialog, it spent about a minute searching for the drive.
