Changing name of dwg file |
|
|
I changed the name of a dwg because the name of the room type had changed. It warned me that I might not be able to access the file if I changed the name, but I changed it anyway, because I had to. Now I think I lost the file. I did a search for it and I can't find it anywhere. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanx in advance

Was the file OPEN by someone else when you did this?
Was the warning from AutoCAD or Windows?
Did you stop and ask someone why you got the warning before proceeding?

I am the only designer that works on Auto Cad. This is why I have to rely on my text from school and autodesk forums when I have a problem. No one else here would open any of my files. I believe the warning was from Auto Cad.

Sounds like the warning Windows gives when you change the three letter
extension after the dot. For example if you change Drawing1.dwg to Drawing2
then AutoCAD will not see the file when you use the File Open dialog. Do not
search for the file from AutoCAD, use windows explorer. Also the ability to
see the three letter extension is turned off by default, turn it on in
folder options (varies slightly by operating system).

It sounds to me like you changed it in Windows Explore. You probably lost
the file extension and that is what the warning was about. The file should
still exist. You will need to find it and add the .dwg extension again. |

Look for the .Bak file and rename it to a .DWG file

Did you rename it in the OPEN command?
or did you use SAVEAS or SAVE while in AutoCAD?
