HP 1050C file name display |
|
|
Since upgrading to ACAD 2005 from ACAD 2002 we have noticed that our plotter
no longer displays the file names of the files we are printing in the
Queuing/Nesting menus on the plotter. It now displays the network path for
each file. As there is a limit on how many characters are displayed, all of
our plots display the same network path or really close to the same. Is
there a way to go back to the old display? Why was this changed?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,

That's how it is now; no way back. It was changed to meet requests from
people who wanted to see the full path in the network queue. Autodesk
expected that this poblem with the plotter's display would be solved in
a new driver that HP should develop (but HP doesn't seem to be in a
hurry). Should really be solved by Autodesk in AutoCAD (next version?)
by offering the users the option to select either the long name or the
short name.
My free GoPlot plottool has an option to limit the displayed name to the
filename without the path, but then you'll have to plot to file first.

When Autodesk decides to make an "improvement" to their software based on
requests from users, do they ever take into account the negative effects it
might have on other users who haven't made the request? I say if it ain't
broke don't fix it, because you end up breaking something else in the
process. And did anyone from Autodesk actually consult with HP about this
before they "improved" this function to make sure that HP would "fix" it on
their end?
Its just really frustrating when you want to find a plot in the queue and
you can't because they all have the some name.
Thanks for the feedback, though.

Hi Jeremy,
Actually this was broken back in AutoCAD 2000. In R14 we would see it this
way. We have had a lot of people request that we change it and so we did.
We also work very close with HP and they are working in this with there
latest drivers as well. But it takes them a while to put out a new driver.
We are also looking at giving this as an option in future versions of
AutoCAD.
Hope this helps and Happy Holidays.
