selecting objects by color

hi ! I have this complicated dwg, which has hundreds of objects in various colors but all on one layer. Is it possible to quickly isolate and select objects by selecting only their color ? I'd like to distibute the objects to new layers for better control.

Grab OBJCOLAY.LSP from the Free Stuff section of http://www.dotsoft.com.
It will convert objects with hard coded color to BYLAYER, creates and
places the object on a new layer with the name COLOR plus the color number.
