Through very bad judgement, I turned off all my pull-down menus and
clicked save. Now I can't seem to get them back. By the pull-down
menus I mean:
File
Edit
Workspace
Help.....etc.

Can anyone give me some tips on restoring them?

Hello Loren,

Ouch! How'd you manage that? Were you working in the customize dlog? Note
that the following applies to v8.5 through v7.1, I don't know if it will
work in v7.0 & previous.

1st you must get a keyin window open, find the funckey.mnu file in that
workspace and open it w/ a texteditor app (notepad.exe). The file should be
in <bentleyroot>\Workspace\interfaces\fkeys\ - look in the file for a line
that begins with "30c" and place a # character at the front of the line (to
comment it out). Then add this new line:

30c,dialog cmdbrowse

This puts the command for opening the keyin window on the F12 key. Save the
mnu file & start uStn in the username and interface that you've exploded.
Hit F12 and keyin:

mdl keyin customiz customiz dialog

to open customiz.ma, then while its dlog remains open, keyin:

customiz restore menubar

& tag Yes in the confirmation dlog. Save (!) the customiz dlog, I think the
menubar should reappear (in its out-of-the-box condition) at this point, if
not, try a restart. Go back to the mnu file in the texteditor, uncomment
your old "30c" line, comment out or delete the "30c,dialog cmdbrowse" line,
and save. The mnu file must end with a blank line, that is, the last char in
the file must be a carriage-return. uStn will re-read your mnu file at the
next File > Open.

If the above solution doesn't work in your version, and you want to retain
other customizations, start uStn and create a new Interface in uStn manager.
Close uStn and open Explorer. Find the ustn.m01 file in
<bentleyroot>\Workspace\Interfaces\MicroStation\<explodedusername>\ and move
it to <bentleyroot>\Workspace\Interfaces\MicroStation\<newusername>\ -
restart uStn in <explodedusername> & load customiz.ma - in the "tools
available from" dropdown, select <newusername> and copy your 'good stuff'
into the interface.

Jeffrey Malter

Mr. Malter,

Thank you very much. I'll admit I was a bit confused reading through
your instructions, but with a little trial and error it worked just as
you said it would. The confusion I am sure is due to my relative
inexperience with MicroStation. Anyway, it worked and I'd like to
thank you very much. Now perhaps my hair will grow back.

Thanks again,
Loren

Loren,

It is nice to hear someone give an appreciative thankyou when so many don't.
