I drew the gauge plate end piece in the book "Microstation for Autocad
Users" Tried to insert a border and now can't find the border or the
drawing. How do you find the object you drew?

Make sure all the layers are turned on.
Call Fit View (that icon with the mountain)
If you can't see it then there is still a slim possability that the colour
you used was similar to the background so you can't see it.
I you call Select All it should display in highlight.
If you havn't found it after that then its not there.

If that dangerous "save on exit" is still present then it is not entirely
impossible that you accidentally deleted everything ... and then closed (saved)
....

Is it also possible that you just closed all of the view windows? If so,
open a view from the Windows menu option

Is it possible that the drawing was open in read only mode, and nothing was
ever written to the file.

Thanks all.

I guess what I was looking for was a zoom all type command. I'll try the
suggestions. I have been working with Autocad for many years and this
Microstation doesn't come easy.

I didn't really understand your original problem so sorry if this is too
late.

The Fit View tool is an icon on the view border that looks like a couple of
black mountains.

If you don't have the scroll bars and icons on the view borders, then go to
Tools>View Control and the Fit View tool is there. The key in is Fit All (to
Fit all files including references) and then place a datapoint in the view
you want to fit.

I found that in V8 that if the drawing levels have been frozen with
[global freeze] after they have been turned off with [global display] in
"LEVEL MANAGER" they won't display even after the levels have been
turned on. May I suggest that in "LEVEL MANAGER" you turn ON the levels
for display and then turn OFF the freeze for those levels. The selected
levels should display if that is indeed the cause.

Note that levels may also be turned OFF/ON in "LEVEL DISPLAY".

The levels, of course, must be turned on in order that the data may be
displayed.

......

Another way that you can create an undisplayed drawing is to draw
elements which have the [construction element attribute] turned ON, and
with the display of construction elements turned OFF in [view
attributes][constructions]. Elements will become undisplayed
construction elements as fast as you can draw them by that method. To
display them ON turn the [constructions] settings for the appropriate
views to OFF, & OK.

BTW: Changing elements to undisplayed construction elements is a useful
way to visually delete elements all the while saving them for later
display or use. Redisplay the elements by changing their element types
to [primary] and or the display of [constructions] to ON in [view
attributes].
