Microstation SE Ref file name length limitation. |
|
|
Is there any way to get SE to reference files with a path name that is
longer than 65 characters, other than re-naming files, or moving them to a
less complicated folder structure? (using Win 2K)
Our IT gurus have come up with a rather rigid folder system, which is not to
be modified by mere mortals - but we cannot reference some of our files.

Previous to V8, there wasn't a way to *expand* the space available for reference file paths. However, we always have recommended
using configuration variables instead of hard-coding the path specification. I believe there is documentation regarding that in the
delivered documentation. Another option would be to use MicroStation V8.
BTW, we host and monitor a number of discussion groups specifically related to Bentley products and services. If you haven't yet,
you might want to check out http://selectservices.bentley.com/newsgroups/ for some helpful information regarding them. HTH

There is a ustn variable you can set to list all the dgn directories.
As long as your file names are unique setting that to all of you dgn dir.s
can work
Think that had a 256 or 512 chars limit tho, so the work around was creating
discipline variable and adding those to the list instead.
I'm not sure if MSSE still had an environment memory limit, if it does you
might need to up that.
eg.
rf=elect:eemod31.dgn,,

I have a clever work around that i made for another user.
In your preferences turn on nested references say to 10.
Now if you ref file A with its refs > into File B which is say 60
charectors away but file B is empty it is then used to reference into File
C which is another 60 charecters away with its nested refs
so you use the intermediate file as a Refernce file path Repeater Station
sort of like radio repeater before the single is too attenutaed to do
anything with.
You'll have to work out the finer points but thats the gist of it.
