Oh well...it appears as if death of Microstation is not far away (my
opionion, formed by companies in my area the fewer participants in this
newsgroup, etc.) How long will it be before the last turns out the light?

Or......will Bently recover like Apple or will they just flicker out
never to be heard of again, except for some old drafting trivia, like
board drafting, cave CAD..?

What is your opinion?

Where is your area? What is your industry?

Have you seen the hundreds of daily posts in the Bentley sponsored
newsgroups?

Bentley's revenues, while smaller, are growing. Autodesk's, while larger,
are shrinking. It is a tough market which is pretty well saturated and it is
hard to move an incumbent CAD system out of any office.

What reasons did these companies tell you to make this opinion? Does anyone
of them have good knowledge of how to work with microstation?
Greetings, M.B.

Interesting. I have formed the opposite opinion.
I think the lack of activity on this and other newsgroups is due to a
large number of people abandoning these in favor of the Bentley hosted
newsgroups. I have seen activity there steadily increasing, while most
of the others are slowing to a trickle.
As for me, I moved over to the Bentley newsgroups and now only take a
quick looks on the others once every couple weeks or so.

From my perspective, MicroStation is steadily gaining steam and market
share. Their v8 product line makes it more competitive in the
traditionally AutoCad market. I see AutoDesk slowly losing ground and
Bentley picking up part of that slack. In addition, part of the market
correction is moving towards ESRI.

Version V8 would have never been developed without comp.cad.microstation's
battle with Bentley for approx 2.5 years.
due to the input from all the old-timers.

Dave Preston went bald because of it :-)

FWIW, information regarding those discussion groups (accessible from NNTP-based newsreaders as well as Web browsers) can be found at
