I'm not familiar with PDS, but I understand it uses Microstation for its
modeling environment. I'm hoping someone here can help me. We have a project
where some existing piping was modeled in PDS and we need convert it over to
AutoCAD so we can route new piping around it. We don't need any of the
intelligence to be converted over, just the graphical data. I know
Microstation can save direct to DWG, but I don't know what to expect from
PDS?

Thanks for any help, bg

Hi,

I think only data you get out from PDS is the Microstation graphics.
You must only save the MicroStation models to ACAD format using by ustn v8
(you can also use v7 but it's not so easy).
After that the 3D models is in the ACAD format and you can use them in
your ACAD project.

PDS does not use the V8 format, V7 only I'm afraid.

We use PDS extensively here and have had a lot of problems getting
piping elbows to go into ACAD. Let me know how you go as I may be
able to help out.

Bear,

I'v seen pretty good results by opening the v7 3d file in v8 (update
to v8 format) and saving to acad 2000+ from v8. A side by side
comparison from MSJ and Acad 2004 look almost identical. Tried this
with files containing lots of piping, reducers, valves and handwheels.
