I've seen a few copies of this for sale on eBay for what appears to be
quite a discount compared to the pro version. However, down in the fine
print, there is a note that the product must be 'registered' with
Autodesk.

Not long ago, I looked at the retail prices on these products and the
fine print next to the educational version required documented proof
that the purchaser was in fact a full time student or faculty (no basket
weaving course at the local community college would do). So, are these
people basically scr*wed if Autodesk says, 'No' or, 'Yes, but cough up
the full retail price first'?

I'm not sure just what your question is ... but the Ed Version is useless
for commercial purposes anyway, since it watermarks every print / plot with
a "Produced with an Educational Version" legend.
