Can't open Autocad in XP Home |
|
|
Bought a new computer and loaded ACAD 2002. When I try to start it, I get:
Fatal error: All the possible directories for storing temporary files either
do not exist or are read only. Please correct this situation before running
autocad again. I've enabled file sharing and done everything I can find
suggested on the web, but when I go to any folder, it won't let me disable
the read only tab. It looks like it will, and I can go through the motions,
but when I click back on the folder it is still read only. Any suggestions??

You need to have poweruser or admin rights to be able to run autocad and to
change permissions on folders.

Then you're obviously not aware of the thousands of users who are running
it. While it may not be "supported" by Autodesk, it runs just fine.

Sure is. It wouldn't make a lot of sense to introduce a version of AutoCAD
that was not compatible with the latest Windows operating system.

Ok, I stand corrected, but I had a great deal of trouble and could not get
it to function, nor could others I spoke to at the time. Switched my OS to
Win2000 and works a treat

Wrong again. There are no functional differences between Home and the
Professional edition of XP. The Pro version simply has a few added features
(like Remote Desktop) to make it more compatible with a multiple-workstation
environment. We've had no problems running any version of AutoCAD since R14
on either XP Home or Pro.

Most things work better on Win 2000. XP was a downgrade.

I'm not a fan of Misro$oft in any way, and I don't really care for the
"activation" part of XP - but in a strict comparison of XP and 2K, I'll
take XP any day. I can turn off all the cartoonish graphics, make it
look like 2K, and overall it's faster and has a few new features. Having
said all that, XP is not leaps and bounds above 2K by any means - but
given the choice between the two - take XP.
Still would like to see R2005 running on Linux though.... :-) |

Why would AutoCAD 2002 not work on Windows 2002 (which XP is)? That
doesn't make any sense. Anyway, it works fine for me. |

I know you tried but you didn't quite make it. Rephrase.
