Where does 'Fitted Text' go/work? |
|
|
I am trying to understand why anybody would us Fitted Text any where on a drawing.
I have searched the different news groups, and found little reason but instead how.
The only place I would think Fitted Text would be is in 'Signage'. Words on a sign. But where else on the print would I find any
Fitted Text?

I use it all the time, in titleblocks and bills of material,
where different combinations of words must fit into the same
confined spaces without extending outside. |

General Notes and other textual matter where justified right and left
margins add to a professional appearance.

When teaching I find there to be less applications for the ALIGN
justificiation vs. FIT justification...
FIT will allow you to maintain a desired height between two points (read:
you avoid going ourside of a cell, as in a schedule, title block or bill of
material) whereas ALIGN will keep the proportion of the text and adjust it's
height (not typically desired).
One thing many people do is use this in a titleblock for something like the
Customer: area and have it set so that you can have X amount of characters.
If the customer's name is much smaller than the typical X amount then you
might have to prefix and/or suffix the customer's name with spaces in order
for it not to stretch out and look funny... if the customer's name is way
lerger than your normal range then you might consider two line (adjusting
the block).

Thanks guys,
Guess I have never seen the right application for Fitted Text.
Guess I will just suck it up and let it go.

Out of curiosity, what exactly is the problem? Like others, I've seen this
usually in logos, title blocks and standard notes which are intended to fill
a rectangular area and appear to be fully justified. A significant downside,
nowadays, is that it isn't supported in mtext.
I haven't seen anyone use "fit" justification for anything but particular
special cases, because it just takes too much fiddling. You have to get the
words to come out to pretty nearly the same line length before being
"fitted," or else the change in width factor from line to line becomes too
obvious and detracts from readability. |

We had some that would copy some Text, that was FIT, and use that in a place that couldn't take the fit area. They just didn't
think.
So with the last group that I was with, we just didn't use it at all. Guess I just got out of the habit.
From the response here there may not be a problem.
Thanks to you all for your replies.
