Nick,

That is now known as the Properties Pallete (was formerly called the
Properties Dialog Box) and yes that is a very powerful pallete to display or
edit properties of selected objects. That coupled with the QSELECT makes
selection/filtering a very useful pair of features to get to know.

Also some other quick-keys are (when using Windows Shortcuts & AutoCAD 2005)
:
CTRL+1 = Properties
CTRL+2 = DesignCenter
CTRL+3 = Tool Palletes
CTRL+4 = Sheet Set Manager
CTRL+5 = Info Pallette
CTRL+6 = dbConnect
CTRL+7 = Markup Set Manager

CTRL+A = Select All
CTRL+B = SNAP ON/OFF (typically F9)
CTRL+C = CopyClip
CTRL+D = Coords ON/OFF (typically F6)
CTRL+E = Isoplane Toggle (typically F5)
CTRL+F = OSNAP ON/OFF (typically F3)
CTRL+G = GRID ON/OFF (typically F7)
CTRL+H = Pickstyle 0/1 or 2/3 toggle (Groups & Associateve Hatch)
CTRL+I = ?
CTRL+J = Executes last command (typically a spacebar, enter or quick
right-click)
CTRL+K = Hyperlink
CTRL+L = ORTHO ON/OFF (typically F8)
CTRL+M = ?
CTRL+N = NEW Drawing
CTRL+O = OPEN existing drawing
CTRL+P = Print current drawing
CTRL+Q = Quit
CTRL+R = Switch between viewports
CTRL+S = Save
CTRL+T = Tablet mode ON/OFF
CTRL+U =?
CTRL+V = Paste from the Clipboard
CTRL+W = ?
CTRL + X =Cuts object to the Clipboard
CTRL+Y = Repeats Last Action (REDO)
CTRL+Z = Reverses Last Action (UNDO)

CTRL+click = Cycle between overlapping ojects

CTRL+drag = copy & paste

CTRL+F6 or CTRL+TAB switch between open drawings

F1 = Displays Help
F2 = Toggles text window on/off
F3 = Toggles OSNAP
F4 = Toggles TABMODE
F5 = Toggles ISOPLANE
F6 = Toggles COORDS
F7 = Toggles GRIDMODE

I had forgotten that.
You can also do an "ortho" pan using shift+mouse wheel.
