AutoCAD TIP: Angle Override |
|
|
Many of us have used ORTHO to force the cursor into a 0, 90, 180, 270
We are all now using POLAR Tracking (Hello? Right?) as it is more flexible
and allows for additional angles, plus still allows us to use the cursor
freestyle.
But what if you know the angle of the next segment and would like to force
the cursor at that specific angle (regardless of ORTHO or POLAR settings)?
THE TIP:
Start or continue a line, and then when prompted for the next point or line
segment simply put in a <60[enter] (or any desired angle) and force the
cursor to only use that angle... then either select, (or using direct
distance) put in a distance.
Notice that this works from any point during line construction, and there is
no reason to pull away. At the next prompt simply enter the <[angle]
[enter] [distance] [enter]. No need to use the mouse.
The tip was published in the latest issue of "The AutoCAD Toolbelt" which I
highly recommend.

I think you left something out in you directions. Maybe I misunderstood
you.
I have been doing this for years but I always have to put "@" in front of
12<45 for the line to continue relative to the point indicated. Entered on
the command line as @12<45

Yeah I misunderstood. Both ways work with the same amount of key strokes.
Your way has one more enter, my way uses @ in the beginning. |

Re: AutoCAD TIP: Angle Override |

Good tip! Personally I haven't found any real use for POLAR Tracking in
Civil/Survey work. If I want to use ortho to draw a building other
rectilinear shape I use Snapangle to reset Ortho temporarily.

Very cool tip. Thanks Tracy. It works in 2000i, 2002, 2004 & 2005. I
don't have 2000 anymore to test it. It doesn't work in R14 and earlier.
